This page contains links to the reports and resulting Statutory Instruments from our Second Statutory Reviews of Electoral Arrangements which took place between 1989 and 1994. These were the second reviews after the introduction of Region, Islands Area and District local authorities in Scotland by the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973. These local authority areas were subsequently abolished after the introduction of the Local Government etc (Scotland) Act 1994.
The electoral divisions for the Regions and Islands Areas were used in elections on 5 May 1994. The wards for the Districts were not brought into force, since those councils were abolished before the next elections after the completion of the reviews, which were due to take place in 1996. However, most of the District Wards were used in Directions from the Secretary of State for Scotland to define formation electoral arrangements in 1995 for the new local authorities formed by the 1994 Act.
